Aaron Francis Bayliss: Shot and killed following attempted car burglary, police say

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-- West Palm Beach Police said they will not be identifying the person whom they say is responsible for shooting and killing a suspected car burglar Tuesday morning.

Police say Aaron Francis Bayliss, 31, was shot and killed when breaking into a car along Arlington Road.

Police also say he had an accomplice but  they are not releasing the name.

Arrest records show that Bayliss has been arrested more than 40 times over the last ten years.

Neighbors say they have mixed reactions about the shooting. Some applaud the shooter's actions and say they feel more secure as a result of it.

Others feel the situation didn't need to escalate into something deadly.

West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio spoke Wednesday about the situation. "The gentleman was protecting himself and his family. I understand, I certainly understand the sentiment behind that, certainly the passion behind that," Muoio said.

The Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office will decide whether or not to charge the shooter with a crime.
