WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - One person was killed in a two-car crash early Tuesday morning in West Palm Beach.
Traffic homicide investigators said the wreck occurred around 4 a.m. in the 4900 block of Broadway Ave.
West Palm Beach officers said a Toyota Camry, driven by Jacob Donovan, 26, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., was heading southbound on Broadway at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle hit a Ford at 50th Street and Broadway. The Ford struck a pole and killed the driver, Rudolph Dansby, 55, of West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Toyota continued southbound after the collision, struck a pole and caught fire. Donovan was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Before the wreck, officials with the Jupiter Police Department said that at 3:22 a.m. officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Camry at West Indiantown Road and US Hwy 1.
Donovan later fled south to Juno Beach, and that's when officers discontinued the chase citing public safety.
An arrest has not been made but charges are pending against Donovan, said police. The crash is under investigation.
A light pole fell down as a result of the crash, knocking out some of the traffic lights.
Crews are at the scene repairing the pole.
