WELLINGTON, Fla. -- A woman was rushed to the hospital Sunday evening after being stabbed in Wellington, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Rescue crews responded around 7 p.m. to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 13000 block of York Court. Once on the scene, they found a female with multiple stab wounds to the neck.
The victim was flown to Delray Medical Center in critical condition. Doctors expect her to survive.
Monday, 50-year-old John C. Leger appeared in court on the charge of attempted murder. The judge decided not to set a bond, and the attorney for Leger did not contest the motion. The judge ordered that Leger not have any contact with the victim and two children.
A probable cause affidavit says after a cut and bleeding woman asked for help, a neighbor dialed 911. When deputies arrived, they saw Leger standing in the driveway holding a large butcher knife. He was irate and yelled for deputies to shoot him. After deputies told him several times to drop the knife, he complied.
Deputies believe Leger stabbed the woman with a box cutter, attempting to cut her throat. The laceration extended from her right ear across her neck to the center of her chin.
