WELLINGTON, Fla. - A 62-year-old man has been arrested after detectives say he chatted online with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl and planned to meet "her" for sexual activity last Friday.
Frederick G. Wade was arrested on charges of solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor, according to a probable cause affidavit released by the Palm Beach County State Attorney's office Monday.
"Our plans are to vigorously contest these charges," Wade's attorney, Scott Suskauer, said Tuesday. "He's absolutely innocent."
Detectives say they began online chatting with Wade in chat rooms in May. A detective posed as Kerri, a 13-year-old girl from West Palm Beach who lived with her mother. The screen name used for Kerri was "KERRI_CHEER_13."
Wade, told Kerri he was a 52-year-old man from Wellington and would send Kerri links to pornographic websites to teach her about sexual activity, a Palm Beach County Sheriff's report says.
He told Kerri it was "healthy" for 13-year-olds to "experiment with each other," the affidavit says.
Wade made plans with Kerri to meet Friday at a gas station on the corner of Forest Hill Boulevard and Old Dixie Highway at 12:30 p.m.
He said would be smoking a cigarette, and she was instructed to approach him as if he were her uncle. Then they would get in his "white Jag" and go to a movie theatre in Lake Worth where he planned to engage in sexual activity with her in the back row, the affidavit says.
When Wade arrived at the gas station to meet Kerri, he met detectives instead and was taken into custody.
