PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - A medical building was evacuated in Wellington due to reports of a strange odor.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene in the 3000 block of South State Road 7.
Workers complained of a sulfur smell, nausea and headaches.
First responders evaluated 31 people. 5 were transported to a hospital.
According to on scene Palm Beach County Battalion Chief Bill Rowley, three firefighters were taken by ambulance for evaluation due to minor irritation from being inside the building
Investigators determined the odor came from dry cell batteries that malfunctioned.
They said the smell was not hazardous, just an irritant.
The building was ventilated and the all clear signal was given before 5 p.m.
