WELLINGTON, Fla. - Can we have another "Voice" winner right from our area? There is one local girl who's trying to make her mark, and follow in the footsteps of one of the most recent "Voice" winners.
Singing has always been second nature to Lexi Luca.
"My passion has been singing for a very long time, I started singing before I could speak," said Lexi.
Now she is taking her talents to the national stage. The 17-year-old Wellington resident was chosen as a contestant on Season 6 of NBC’s “The Voice.”
"When I got that call that I was going back out there, I was actually inside and ran outside to my mom and I was screaming down the street because I was so happy," said Lexi.
The Wellington native is now on Blake Shelton's team. He took interest in her after she sang a rendition of “Wasting All These Tears” by Season 3 Voice winner Cassadee Pope.
Cassadee was also from Wellington and was on Blake Shelton's team, as well.
"It was also nerve-racking because they heard her sing before, because she won, but at the same time I look up to her, and she's played a big role in my inspiration," said Lexi.
An inspiration that keeps Lexi's coach, Mike Soper, smiling.
"It's hard to explain, it's hard to put into words, I couldn't be anymore proud, I'm bursting inside for Lex," said Soper.
Mike is Lexi's coach. He's never had a student compete on the national stage...until now.
"I want her to be happy, I want her to keep her foot on the pedal, whatever this brings, there will be life on the other side of The Voice," said Soper.
Lexi is finishing her senior year at Palm Beach Central. After class, she heads straight to the studio to practice. Practice that will hopefully pay off in two weeks.
"I think what I really need to do is work really hard, and I'll get to where I need to be," said Lexi.
Lexi is one of the 48 finalists heading back to Hollywood later this month.
The show airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC at 8 p.m.
