Last-minute shopping on Christmas Eve

WELLINGTON, Fla. - Shoppers were out all day Christmas Eve buying last minute gifts and groceries.

Some shoppers ran in for an over-looked ingredient for their holiday recipe but others had carts packed with food for Christmas Eve and day.

Publix locations will close at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night and are closed all of Christmas day.

Shoppers say they are taking extra precautions in over-crowded parking lots especially those shopping with children but overall in good spirits.

"Everybody's bumping into each other but at the same time everybody is friendly and saying Merry Christmas which is a good thing also so, it's the norm," said shopper Ada Mason.

Many shoppers at the Wellington Mall were only carrying a bag or two of last-minute presents. Mall management said the busiest day this week was Saturday. While Tuesday was certainly very crowded for shoppers in stores and supermarkets, some shoppers say they were pleasantly surprised.

"Not as chaotic as they usually are during this time, usually it's more packed and there's more of a line but it wasn't as bad this year," said shopper Claudia Soto.

The Palm Beach Gardens Mall and Wellington Mall will be closed Christmas day.  Both malls will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
