WELLINGTON, Fla. - An adult male and two juveniles were arrested on Thursday in connection with the burglary of a residence in the Village of Wellington, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Jermiah Hinds, 19, and two teensagers 15 and 17 were arrested after a vigilant neighbor saw them walking up to the front door of a home in the 300 block of Wranglewood Drive and knock, Barbera said.
She said that one of the suspects was seen jumping the backyard fence and signaling to the other suspects to follow. The other suspects began walking over to the fence when they noticed that the neighbor had seen them and quickly walked away. Within minutes deputies arrived and arrested all three suspects.
Deputies dubbed them the "knock burglars" because of their mode of operation – knocking on doors in the hopes that no one is home so they can force their way inside.
Deputies ask residents to remain vigilant, keep homes locked and alarms set, and not to keep valuables in plain view. And to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
