WELLINGTON, Fla. - A horse groom who died Friday afternoon after being kicked in the chest by a horse at the International Polo Club has been identified as Jose Calverio, according to Teri Barbera, spokeswoman Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Calverio, 26, was a horse groomer for a professional polo player. He was taking a horse from the field when he ran behind another horse, spooking the animal, Barbera said. She said the horse kicked Calverio, knocking him unconscious.

The accident happened around 2:46 p.m. during a polo match at 3667 120 th Ave South in Wellington.

PBSO is conducting a non-criminal accidental death investigation, Barbera said.
