WELLINGTON, Fla. - A high school football player injured Wednesday evening could be released from the hospital Thursday night or Friday.
The junior varsity punter for American Heritage School suffered a concussion while attempting a tackle during a game against Palm Beach Central.
He collapsed and was flown to Delray Medical Center, said Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
"You try to be positive, you try to be upbeat and you just tell him you know, don't jump to conclusions. Let's see how everything plays out and just what they did is behind the young man and his family one hundred percent," said American Heritage Football Coach/Athletic Director Stacy Sizemore.
Coaches say the player, who has not been identified, was wearing the proper equipment.
