PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - In just 24 hours, the United Way's 'Great Give' campaign in Martin and Palm Beach counties raised more than $1.9 million for local non-profit organizations.
The crowdfunding event will help 330 local non-profit organizations through more than 7,400 donations.
Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, United Way of Palm Beach County, Martin County Community Foundation and United Way of Martin County will all use the donations to reach other charities in the area.
Donations are being amplified with additional funding from sponsors, as many of the donations are being matched by donors in the area.
A similar fundraiser in Miami raised $3.2 million. Palm Beach and Martin counties were hoping to exceed that figure on Tuesday.
On the www.greatgiveflorida.org website Wednesday morning, the United Way posted a message to donors. It read, "Thanks to your generosity, our inaugural 24-hour online giving day was a GREAT success."
