As school starts, here’s a refresher on school zone safety.

At just 10 mph over the speed limit in a school zone, it could be nearly impossible for a driver to stop in time.

New this school year, drivers will hear crossing guards whistle more while they work.

Previously, guards blew their whistle to warn drivers they are too close to the crosswalk. Now, an added safety measure is they will whistle whenever they step out into a crosswalk.

Finally, drivers will need to get used to the big yellow buses again.

By law, drivers must stop when buses flash their red lights and extend the stop sign.

The only time drivers can pass is when you are on a divided highway with an unpaved space of at least 5 feet or there's some type of noticeable barrier like a median.

Law enforcement agencies are using social media to remind drivers to obey the traffic rules.
