Katherine A. Rigby killed while riding bicycle in hit and run crash in Royal Palm Beach

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A woman was killed after being struck by a hit and run driver while she and her son were riding bicycles on Sunday morning in Royal Palm Beach, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Katherine A. Rigby of Loxahatchee, 40, was riding a bicycle close to the shoulder of the westbound lane of Tangerine Blvd. just west of 120th Ave. N.

Rigby's son was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk behind her.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Tangerine Boulevard and struck Rigby, ejecting her from her bicycle.

Rigby came to rest on the grass shoulder of the north side of the road.

She died as a result of her injuries.

The vehicle swerved slightly to the left after the collision and continued westbound failing to stop, gaining speed as it fled the scene of the crash.

Pieces of the vehicle's headlight and metal grill were recovered by investigators.

Investigators now suspect the vehicle is a light color possible white or tan, 2000-to-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The windows of the vehicle are tinted.

There will be damage to the right front of the vehicle to include the headlight, grill and possibly the hood.
