John Flanagan: Man shot by Boynton Beach officers appears in court on assault charges

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. - A Royal Palm Beach man who was at shot by three Boynton Beach Police Officers made his first appearance in court Wednesday morning after being released from a hospital.

John Flanagan, according to his arrest report, was pulled over Friday night.

Three officers from Boynton Beach, Cory Gray, Christopher Munro and Daniel Griswold, were participating in a multiple law enforcement DUI saturation patrol along Royal Palm Beach Boulevard.

Officer Gray said that there was a smell of marijuana in Flanagan's car.

Flanagan, according to Gray, tried to flee and backed up his car trapping Boynton officers Gray and Munro.

The arrest report says that Gray was able to free himself and Munro was dragged until the car stopped to change direction.

Gray, Munro and Griswold said they feared for their safety and fired shots at Flanagan.

Investigators say that Flanagan was struck two times and stopped his car on Royal Palm Beach Boulevard.

Police searched Flanagan's car and said they found drugs in the console area,

Police say that officer Munro is recovering from minor injuries that he received when he was dragged by the suspect's vehicle.

The officers are all on administrative leave with pay, which is routine following an officer-involved shooting.

Flanagan is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail on assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, as well as drug possession charges. HIs bond was set at $300,000.
