Funeral Monday for Warrant Officer Joseph Schiro, Green Beret, shot in Afghanistan

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla.--A fallen soldier will be laid to rest Monday.

The funeral for Warrant Officer Joseph Schiro will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Christ Fellowship Church in Royal Palm Beach.

The 27-year-old Special Forces "Green Beret" was shot and killed in Afghanistan last week. He leaves behind family scattered throughout Broward and Palm Beach Counties, including a wife and three young children. His oldest child is three-years-old.

Schiro's father, Joseph Schiro Sr., calls his son honest, caring and ethical. "He was a better son than my wife and I were parents, and I honestly believe that in my heart," he said.

Sunday, more than a hundred members of the Florida National Guard paid respects by saluting as Schiro's body was driven to the funeral home from Palm Beach International Airport.

Schiro will be buried at the South Florida National Cemetery.

The family set up a Facebook page which lists Schiro's official obituary, along with a link if anyone would like to donate to his children.
