Roger Aaron Kirby: Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy under arrest, accused of child abuse

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - A  Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy is under arrest.

37-year-old Roger Aaron Kirby was arrested Thursday for aggravated child abuse, according to a police report.

Kirby is accused of choking and punching a five-year-old child.

Kirby is on paid administrative leave from PBSO pending the investigation.

Kirby is assigned to the training division, and joined the sheriff's office 10 years ago.

The sheriff’s office released the following statement:

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office holds its employees to the highest standards.  We are committed to preserve the public's trust.  Unfortunately sometimes an employee will make a bad decision which leads to misconduct.  The misconduct of our deputy was uncovered by our staff and subsequently determined to be criminal in nature.

The Sheriff's Office will remain vigilant.  We insure you that our efforts are professional and meet the highest standards our public has come to expect.
