West Riviera Elementary was on lockdown Tuesday morning while police searched for a suspect near the school.
The lockdown was lifted around 11:20 am.
Neighbors say police were chasing a suspect near the school and there was a crash.
Police aren't releasing whether there is a suspect in custody.
"I'm very afraid. I've been here forty years and now I want to leave. If they catch whoever did this they should put them in prison for life. Children could have been hurt," neighbor Yvonne Howard said.
Howard was unable to get to her home because of the crime scene.
Fourth street was reopened around 11:30 a.m.
