Stepped-up patrols on Peanut Island for the Fourth of July

PEANUT ISLAND, Fla. - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission have stepped patrols around Peanut Island for the 4th of July.

The area can get quite crowded on holidays so PBSO even put in special buoys this year around the sandbar to keep an area clear for emergency boats.

Many families are expecting to enjoy the sand and surf on the long holiday weekend.

"Well it is a little different this time since I'm pregnant so I won't be drinking. Just hanging out with the family,” said Shannon Jackson of Riviera Beach.

"We want to kinda check it out...a little bit of history...and just fun snorkeling. A little bit of fun at the beach is what we are looking for,” said David Dalton of Riviera Beach.

This is also the last weekend the Riviera Beach Marina Tiki Bar will be open. It's closing down to make room for new development.
