She woke up hot, sweaty and alone
RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. - Parents of 5-year-old Stephanie Leo say their daughter was abandoned on a school bus Tuesday.
Joe Leo says his daughter was on a field trip.
When he arrived to pick her up from Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School, he says teachers were not able to locate her.
"First it was five minutes, then I was waiting forty five minutes asking where is Stephanie," Leo said.
Leo says teachers searched the school and then sent someone to check the bus at the bus depot.
That's where he says they found Stephanie.
"I was crying a little bit," the 5-year-old said.
Stephanie said she didn't know where she was and that she was hot and sweating.
"She said she was really scared and she thought she would never see us again because she thought she might die in there because it was really hot on the bus," Stephanie's sister Stracey Leo said.
Stephanie and her father were later reunited at the school. He is not sure how long she was alone on the bus.
According to a spokesman for the Palm Beach County School District, it is aware of the situation and both the school and the transportation department are investigating.
The spokesman says there is a policy that bus drivers check their buses to make sure no children are ever left behind.
