RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. - WPTV recently reported that Mayor Thomas Masters had agreed to pay back the city $6,000 to cover the cost of a 2012 trip he took to China.
The mayor says that is not the case. He says $6,000 will be unused, or left over, from his official office budget this fiscal year. And mayor Masters says it is simply a standard, automatic practice that such unused money go back into city coffers.
Some commissioners have criticized the mayor's China trip and the tab for taxpayers.
Mayor Masters defends the trip as a chance to strike up new business ties.
