Blue Heron Boulevard & Congress Avenue in Riviera Beach reopen after gas leak

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. - Riviera Beach police say a thousand gallons of fuel leaked from a gas truck at a BP gas station at Congress Avenue and Blue Heron Boulevard  just before 3:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon.

As a result, West Blue Heron Boulevard and Congress Avenue were closed  for hours,  just reopening to  traffic in all directions at 10:00 pm.

Police evacuated nearby businesses as a precaution. They include a Laundromat, a Dunkin’ Donuts and a Quiznos sub restaurant.

“They just said it might blow up at any minute because it's so hot out here,” one evacuated worker said.

A hazmat was called to the scene but no one was injured,

Fire rescue crews applied  foam to the affected area.

According to West Palm Beach Emergency Management Director Allan Ortman, 3 private contractors have been  hired to come in to clean up the area.
