Hurricane season is right around the corner and Florida Power and Light is preparing its employees for the worst-case scenario.
Workers participated in the company's annual drill Thursday. The exercise simulates a category two hurricane.
During the drill crews prepared to roll out trucks and bring in mobile headquarters to mimic how they'd respond during an extremely strong storm.
“One of the things we would do immediately, or very soon after the storm clears and in some cases before the storm clears, is set up staging sites and pre-position some of our personnel and external personnel so we can be in the game, if you will, as quickly as possible after the storm clears and restore power as safely and quickly as possible,” said FPL Hurricane Incident Commander T.I. Widner.
This year they're also preparing to use drones to help survey damage.
The drill takes employees through what to do immediately after the storm passes.
The last hurricane to hit South Florida was Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
