Scott Duquette, demoted Palm Beach police captain, appeals to town committee members for old job

PALM BEACH, Fla. - Demoted police captain, Scott Duquette, is expected to go before the administrative and personnel committee this morning to argue to get his former position back.

The 19 year veteran with the Palm Beach police force was demoted last year in May after a handful of officers filed harassment and discrimination complaints against him to town leaders and the EEOC.

The complaints were made between July and October of 2011.

An investigation was launched and the attorney hired to look into the matter found that none of the officers were subjected to unlawful harassment or to a discriminatory or hostile work environment.

But during the investigation, according to the attorneys report, Duquette acknowledged that he made slang and sexually explicit remarks to some department personnel but didn't intend to offend anyone.

Five days has been set aside in order for council members to hear testimony from more than dozens of witnesses, mostly department workers.

The hearing begins  at 9:30 a.m.
