Michael Dippolito reflects on wife's hitman plot

Michael Dippolito sits down for interview

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Michael Dippolito is still trying to process his wife's arrest, conviction and sentencing for trying to hire a hitman to kill him.

"I never thought in a million years that she'd try to kill me," he said in his first day of public interviews since a judge sentenced his wife Dalia to 20 years in prison.

It's all still sinking in for Michael.

"She was talking about having me killed like ordering a bologna sandwich, like, give me one of those with that. It didn't mean anything to her and that's the creepy part of it," said Dippolito.

Police arrested Dalia in August 2009 after weeks of videotaping her meetings with an undercover officer posing as a hitman.

After her sentence was delivered by Palm Beach County Judge Jeffery Colbath, Michael said he was 5,000 percent sure he was pleased with the sentence.

This was a play on words, because Dalia Dippolito told an undercover police officer she was 5,000 percent sure she wanted to move forward with a plan to have Michael killed.

"It probably wasn't the classiest thing I've ever done but I think after everyone poking and poking at me and dragging me through the mud over and over, I think I just said that to make a point," said Michael.

During the trial, Dalia's defense team said Michael hatched the whole plot for reality TV fame.

"To say I was involved is just, you know, it's insane. I obviously wanted all the opposite of this 'cause I'd have been living a different life by now," said Dippolito.

Michael says life hasn't been easy since Dalia's arrest.

He said, "I wasn't going to lie down and hide under a pillow, I told myself that, I'm not going to do that."

Dippolito says he’s gone to a therapist but also says he's on the verge of bankruptcy and still on probation until 2032 for a fraud sentence.

Michael says visiting Dalia in prison won't be part of his plan to get back on track.

"I didn't want any of this. I feel bad for her in a way of not like it's my wife I feel bad, I feel bad that she's a lost person you know," said Dippolito.

Dippolito says he's not against getting married again.

While his divorce hearings are moving forward, he says he's dating someone new.
