PALM BEACH, Fla. - One adult was transported to JFK Medical Center Sunday evening, after getting caught in the rip current helping to rescue young swimmers at Kreusler Park, said Captain Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
Rescue crews responded to a call around 5:37 p.m. for as many as six swimmers being caught in rip currents. Upon arrival, rescue crews discovered that there were a total of four swimmers and an unknown number of rescuers, Borroto said.
The four swimmers caught in the rip current were already rescued by bystanders and left the scene before crews arrived, however, one of the rescuers was caught in the rip current, said Borroto.
"The problem is when we have one person as the victim people try and do the right thing and the right thing is to actually stay out of the water," said James Weber with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
Rip currents are expected to be a problem on Monday.
