Palm Beach County pushes to increase summer tourism

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Tourism groups are making a push for summer business in Palm Beach County.

Discover Palm Beach County says business slows down in the summer months, so they are putting deals together in hopes it picks up.

"There's a lot of room at the inn," says Discover Palm Beach County CEO Jorge Pesquera." The idea of course is to try and stabilize our occupancy levels by doing these promotional efforts."

Discover Palm Beach County has launched MyPalmBeachSummer.com .

The websites has special deals and packages going on across the area.

One of the big challenges the tourism industry faces right now, according to Pesquera, is the perception Florida isn't a good vacation spot in the summer.

"The mindset that it's too hot, that it's stifling, that there may be mosquitos or whatever it is," he says. "Which are erroneous perceptions about what we have to offer here."

A big part of Pesquera's push is to get people who live locally to explore their own backyard and think about taking a vacation closer to home.

"The year round residents do participate as tourists in their own county, so we certainly count on them to keep the momentum going," Pesquera says.
