Palm Beach County prosecutors learn about the crime of arson at a live fire demonstration

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - The Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office has a keener understanding of the crime of arson.

During a demonstration Tuesday morning, Palm Beach County firefighters poured gasoline and accelerant throughout a staged burn room. Then they set the blaze to create the actions of an arsonist.

Fire rescue officials say they are keeping a close eye on areas that have a lot of abandoned or foreclosed homes.

"Arson affects everyone in the county. It's not just the victim who feels the pain of an intentionally set fire. All taxpayers have to pay higher insurance rates because of arson,” said Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg.

Aronberg and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Chief Larry Willhite used the occasion to announce the appointment of Assistant Palm Beach County State Attorney Lindsey Marcus as Special Designated Arson Prosecutor.
