Dogs, cats, goat and pig confiscated from residence in The Acreage

THE ACREAGE, Fla. - More than 50 animals have been confiscated from a home in The Acreage.

50 dogs, three cats, a goat and a small pig are now in the temporary hands of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.

Authorities say the animals have skin problems and there was poor ventilation where they were housed which caused the animals to get sick.

"We have animals with ear problems, teeth problems, abscesses, there was one animal there that was in really bad shape and had to be put down," Said Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Captain Dave Walesky.

Animal Care and Control says Martina Alfonso was caring for the animals.

She is a breeder but also runs a non-profit organization which claims to get animals adopted.

"Usually these two things have competing missions. Rescue groups are usually trying to help someone making sure pets are getting sterilized and are not looking out to bringing in money in a commercial venture." Walesky said.

Veterinarians are checking on the animals and volunteers are helping care for them.

No charges have been filed against Alfonso. She refused comment except to say she's getting a lawyer.
