LANTANA, Fla. - The past five years have been challenging for Sindee Katz. As a realtor, her business plummeted with the housing market, putting her behind on her own mortgage payments. Now she faces foreclosure.
"It's very scary not knowing if you can put food on the table, or pay your mortgage. I have to borrow money to pay my mortgage," said Katz.
Katz rushed to apply for the Hardest Hit program for homeowners, and if approved it will pay her mortgage for a year. But she knows that's not enough. She also plans to apply for the "Making Home Affordable" program, the Obama Administration extended the deadline Thursday by two years.
"I was ecstatic, thrilled. Hopefully I will get approved," said Katz.
Katz keeps running into costs. A faulty roof led to massive leaks inside her Lantana home this year. She convinced her insurance company to cover the repairs, but she will have to pay back that loan.
Still, she says the government programs could be her saving grace.
"Hopefully by next year things will be better and I can keep my house and maintain it. I love it, I've been here 10 years," said Katz.
The original deadline for the "Making Home Affordable" program was December 2013.
