Copper thefts close Palm Beach County Health Department's Lantana office

LANTANA, Fla. - Crews worked Tuesday to repair stolen copper valves at the Palm Beach County Health Department's Lantana office.

The center serves hundreds of people each day for primary care and through their pharmacy.

According to a health department spokesman, someone stole a series of copper valves overnight that left the building with no water.

"It is frustrating when you need medicine, you want to pick it up, and if you need to see a doctor that is even more important and you can't do that either," Tim O'Conner with the Health Department said.

People with critical needs were sent to offices in Greenacres and Delray Beach.

According to the spokesman, this is not the first time this sort of thing has happened. Copper was stolen from one of their offices in Riviera Beach.

Lantana police are investigating this incident.  The facility was back open on Wednesday morning.
