Wounded man airlifted to hospital after Lake Worth shooting

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting this afternoon that injured one man who was flown to a local hospital.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 2:48 p.m. to the 1200 block of 18th Ave. North, in Lake Worth Heights which is east of Interstate 95 and north of 10th Avenue North.

Rescue crews found one man shot in the torso.

The man, who authorities have not identified, was taken by Trauma Hawk to Delray Medical Center.

The victim and the alleged shooter knew each other and planned to meet at the location.

Once they were there an altercation took place, said sheriff's spokesman Teri Barbera.

The victim ran and the shooter, described as a black male with dreads wearing a black shirt and navy blue pants, followed him. The shooter then shot at the victim hitting him in the upper torso.

The shooter ran back to the meeting place and drove away in the victim's dark green Ford Explorer Sport Trac.
