Two brothers rescued from sinking boat off the Lake Worth Inlet

First time taking this boat out

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. -- Two brothers were rescued from a sinking boat Monday off the Lake Worth Inlet near Phil Foster Park.

Bert and Winston Lopez said it was their first time taking this boat -- an 18-foot Four Winns -- out on the water. They said they spent time and money getting it serviced. But when it started to rapidly take on water Monday morning, they realized they were in trouble and immediately dialed 911.

"Within five minutes, the boat was totally sinked," said Bert. "There was a Norwegian Cruise that was passing by, we waved to them, it was a big yacht. And they came by, just in time. We were in the water when they passed by to pick us up"

The U.S. Coast Guard received the distress call at approximately 10 a.m.

The crew of the M.Y. Norwegian Queen saw their boat capsizing and provided rescue. They said they perform regular "man overboard" drills and the training was helpful.

The brothers said they now have the task of trying to get their boat out of the bottom of the ocean.
