LAKE WORTH, Fla. - A girl was rushed to Delray Medical Center Monday evening after being struck by a sport utility vehicle in Lake Worth, said Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
The child was struck a few minutes before 7 p.m. at 11 th Avenue and South K Street and taken to the hospital after meeting trauma alert criteria, Borroto said.
The toddler was playing behind a parked car and ran toward her mother when she was struck by the SUV that was pulling into the parking lot of the apartment complex, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The child suffered "lots of road rash" and is expected to survive, Barbera said.
The driver of the vehicle will not be charged, Barbera said.
