LAKE WORTH, Fla. - A Lake Worth father is now facing charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child after his 3-year-old daughter shot and killed herself with his gun on Feb. 13.
The incident occurred at a home in the 1200 block of North O Street.
The father of the child, Thomas Chambers, 41, told PBSO that he left his Kel-Tec 9 millimeter pistol on a table so he would not forget it before he left for work.
Chambers said he was getting dressed after taking a shower and heard "a very loud pop." He ran to the child and discovered his daughter had shot herself.
When PBSO investigated, they also discovered a semi-automatic pistol was loaded near a child's play pen.
During their investigation, they also learned this wasn't the first time the child had handled the weapon.
The child’s mother, who also lives in the home, said she remembered another incident in which she woke up in her bed with the child over her and pointing the gun at her.
Chambers acknowledged this happened because he was lying in bed next to his wife when it occurred.
