LAKE WORTH, Fla. - While a mother plans for a funeral, the man accused of hitting and killing a 3-year-old Monday afternoon, remains behind bars.
In this cell phone video, Priscila Perez-Gaspar is full of life. Her mother, Eulalia Gaspar, remembers her 3 year old as being a happy child, one who loved to have fun.
After days of asking why, she's learned the man accused of hitting and killing her daughter, was taken into custody Friday night on vehicular manslaughter charges.
Gaspar said, "I'm happy because he was arrested and he's never going to harm other kids, like he did to my Priscila."
Steven Barnes, went before a judge for first appearance Saturday morning.
The judge denied his bond.
Deputies said Priscila was walking home with a friend Monday afternoon on Kirk Road when Barnes lost control of his truck.
Priscila was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A make shift memorial of flowers, balloons and teddy bears lay at the scene where she was hit.
"I don't understand why people are out there driving in a crazy manner," said Gaspar.
And now this grieving mother will lay her child to rest Sunday after the funeral, but her pain is eased, knowing authorities have arrested someone.
"I know that I will never see my little one again, but I am happy because that person will pay," said Gaspar.
Gaspar has started a foundation in her daughter's honor through TD Bank called The Priscila Foundation.
Deputies continue to wait for the toxicology report.
The funeral service is Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Del Lago Funeral Home in Lake Worth.
