A ceremony honored the unclaimed remains of our fallen heroes to make sure their sacrifice is never forgotten.
This morning, 22 sets of remains, including 16 veterans and six spouses, received a military service at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.
Each set was placed in an urn and given a full burial.
The non-profit, Missing in America Project, identifies the unclaimed remains of veterans across the country to thank and honor them for the ultimate sacrifice.
“They signed on the line from the minute they joined the service until the time they die,” explained Kathy Church the Florida State Coordinator for the Missing in America Project. “Even though they've been discharged, military people feel that they are still in the military and they need to be honored in the proper way.”
Since the first ceremony here in 2014, the Missing in American Project has buried the remains of about 75 veterans in Palm Beach County.
The organization’s goal is to work with every funeral home, crematorium and hospital in the country to find the unclaimed remains of our veterans.
