LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Family-owned Hoffman's Chocolates is now owned by BBX Capital Corporation of Fort Lauderdale.
Paul Hoffman started the business about 40 years ago.
Since then it has grown into a large company owning Boca Bons and Good Fortunes.
Former owner Fred Meltzer says the chocolates will still be handmade in Lake Worth.
Meltzer and Sandra Hoffman will remain with the business involved in the daily production at the facility.
"Hoffman's Chocolates is a Florida success story that is built on a legacy of quality and service," said Jarett Levan, President of BBX Capital in a company news release. "We are very excited about the acquisition of Hoffman's Chocolates and welcome their staff and management to our family of BBX Capital companies."
"Sandra Hoffman and I are delighted with the opportunities and resources that BBX Capital brings to Hoffman's Chocolates. For almost four decades, the South Florida community has embraced Hoffman's products, and we are excited to continue to grow the company," said Fred Meltzer, president of Hoffman's Chocolates in a news release.
Meltzer says the acquisition could provide more jobs in the area in the near future.
"We plan on opening more stores. We don't have the timing determined just yet, but it's probably not too far off," said Levan.
There is no word on how BBX Capital Corporation paid to acquire Hoffman's Chocolates.
Customers we spoke with like Beth Williams don't mind the business sale, they just want to make sure the chocolate tastes the same.
