Suspect in Mobil gas station armed robbery arrested after girlfriend turns him in

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies have arrested an armed robbery suspect after his girlfriend turned in a Crime Stoppers tip when she recognized him on the local news.

According to an arrest report, two suspects, one wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and carrying an AK-47, walked into a Mobil gas station located at 1423 Dixie Hwy. in Lake Worth on the evening of April 26.

The suspects held the cashier at gunpoint and removed the cash register. The incident was recorded on the gas station's video surveillance and deputies released that footage to the media.

On May 5, Crime Stoppers investigators received a tip from Edward McClendon's girlfriend of six years.

According to the arrest report, she immediately recognized McClendon as the suspect in the white-hooded sweatshirt. She said she recognized him by his Nike Air Max sneakers, his mannerisms and his AK-47.

Detective's located McClendon at another woman's house in West Palm Beach. They say the found his sneakers and white-hooded sweatshirt at the residence. The clothing was placed in evidence and McClendon was placed under arrest. Deputies say McClendon is also a convicted felon.

He faces charges of robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a weapon of a convicted felon. He remains at the Palm Beach County Jail. The second person wanted in connection with the case is still on the run.
