Diane Carle charged with more than 100 counts of causing death, pain and suffering to animals

Bond set at more than $300,000

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - A Lake Worth woman charged with more than one hundred counts of causing death, pain and suffering to animals is under arrest.

Diane Carle appeared in court Wednesday morning. The more than one hundred charges stem from a raid in December when investigators say they found 137 cats, dogs, pigeons, and a turtle.

Police had to wear HazMat suits to go inside the home because they say the conditions were so bad. Sadly almost all of the cats had to be euthanized because they were in such poor health.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control said animal hoarding is becoming a serious problem in the county. "Yeah, they start off with a small number and they feel that they are helping. Then those numbers start multiplying, they start breeding, they get out of hand. They don't like to ask for help and it just (spirals) out of control," said Misti Scaggs with Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.

Carle's attorney asked for her to be released on house arrest -- but the judge said, after reading the probable cause affidavit, he was keeping the bond at over 300 thousand dollars.
