SUBURBAN LAKE WORTH, Fla. - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has identified the driver of a car suspected of hitting and killing a bicyclist Monday morning on Kirk Road, south of Lake Worth Road.
According to the sheriff's office, 30-year-old Victor Gutierez of West Palm Beach was northbound on Kirk when his vehicle struck the rear of the bicycle, also heading northbound.
The impact ejected the still unidentified bike rider who landed on the hood of Gutierez's car and rolled in the street, according to an investigator.
According to a sheriff's office report, Gutierez went north on Kirk and then turned east on Lake Worth Road. In the meantime witnesses stopped at the crash scene and reported it along with a description of the car.
A Palm Springs officer and PBSO deputy saw the vehicle being driven in a reckless manner on Lake Worth Road and pulled it over, according to the sheriff's office.
According to an investigator's report, Gutierez "was found to be impaired."
He was charged with DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene causing death and no valid driver's license.
According to the sheriff's office the victim was a Hispanic man, approximately 5'9" tall and weighed 173 lbs. He had dark hair and was 18-25 years old.
