Southbound Turnpike reopens after 7 injured in crash

All lanes have reopened after a traffic crash blocked traffic on the southbound Florida Turnpike for about an hour, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m., just north of mile marker 90, located between Lake Worth Road and the Lantana toll plaza.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue reports that seven people were injured, including a woman who struck by a passing vehicle after she got out of her car following the crash.

A BMW and a Ford were involved in a minor crash, said Lt. Tim Frith, spokesman for FHP. The woman driving the BMW got out of her car and was struck by a passing vehicle, Frith said.

The woman and driver of the Ford were both transported to the Delray Medical Center with serious injuries, he said.

The extent of the injuries to the other patients was not clear, but those patients were transported to area hospitals, Capt. Don DeLucia, spokesman for Fire Rescue, said.
