SUBURBAN LAKE WORTH, Fla. -
UPDATE: The 3-year-old girl struck and killed by a truck Monday afternoon has been identified as Priscila Perez-Gaspar.
A 3-year-old girl was struck and killed by a truck as she was walking with a family friend on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. near Lake Worth and Kirk Roads in suburban Lake Worth, according to the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
A white pickup truck was traveling south on Kirk Road when it left the road and struck the child, said the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The truck continued until he ran into a fence and stopped.
A woman identifying herself as the wife of the pickup driver said her husband may have had a medical emergency behind the wheel.
Sheriff's office investigators are reconstructing the crash scene to try and determine how the collision happened.
"All my prayers out to the parents. She has to be going through a lot. Just imagine a little kid or her daughter walking home... that's just painful just to hear about it," said Luz Cisneros who live nearby.
Kirk Road south of Lake Worth Road southbound was shut down.
The child was transported by Trauma Hawk to St. Mary's Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The conditions of the family friend and driver have not been released.
