LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- A Lake Worth man has been charged in a deadly hit-and-run accident that took the life of a woman Sunday morning.
Diego Pascual, 26, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail Sunday evening and charged with one count of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder. Authorities said he turned himself in.
He was denied bond Monday morning during a first appearance in court.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Pascual plowed his 2001 GMC Yukon into a Lake Worth family, killing Cristina Andres, 37, and striking her husband and four children. She died after being flown to Delray Medical Center.
Her 37-year-old husband, Miguel Pedro Francisco, and 17-year-old daughter Ana Pedro-Andres, remain hospitalized at Delray Medical Center, authorities said. Ana is Francisco's girlfriend, deputies say.
Two other children, ages two and six, were taken to Bethesda Memorial Hospital with abrasions and lacerations and were later released. Another daughter, 9-year-old Maria Pedro-Andres, was not hurt.
Investigators say t he family was walking down the 800 block of North H Street around 10:30 a.m. when Pascual struck them and fled the scene.
A perimeter was set up around North H street, while deputies searched by land and air for him.
PBSO officials said Pascual told them during the interrogation that he was angry and "in a rage" and that he wanted to cause the family trouble.
He said his "rage" resulted from an argument the night before between him and the family and that he struck the six intentionally, according to deputies.
