Greenacres man arrested after allegedly beating wife in drunken rage in front of kids

GREENACRES, Fla. - Police arrested a 35-year-old man early this morning on battery charges, after he allegedly got drunk and slapped his wife on the left side of her face and neck.

This morning, Eladio Gomez, of Greenacres, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $4,000 bond.

In addition to resisting an officer without violence and two counts of battery, he is also charged with cruelty toward child because the alleged incident happened in front of his children.

Around 12:23 a.m. today, Greenacres police responded to domestic call with a woman screaming in the background. Officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of 10th Avenue in Greenacres, where they found two men arguing.

Gomez's 34-year-old wife, whose name is withheld in the report, told the officers that her husband had been drinking when he began to argue, according to the arrest report. She said Gomez slapped her on the left side of her face and neck. He also threw several things around the living room area, where their three children were crying.

Gomez then allegedly grabbed his wife, pushed her against the kitchen wall and raised a large sugar container above his head.

When the woman's brother arrived, Gomez began fighting with him instead, The 24-year-old man, whose name is also withheld in the report, received scratches to his chest and neck from the fight.

The couple's 4-, 6- and 10-year-old children witnessed the fighting and said that they had either seen their mother be hit, pushed or screamed at by their father, Gomez.

In court this morning, Gomez was ordered to have no contact with any of his children, his wife or brother-in-law. He is also to refrain from having weapons.
