SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A father was ordered Thursday by a judge to stay away from his children after one of them was found trying to cross a busy West Palm Beach intersection all alone Wednesday.
The judge let the father, Eder Jean Baptiste, out of jail on supervised release. Jean Baptiste is facing child neglect charges.
He told police he was sleeping when his 4-year-old daughter was found trying to cross North Military Trail.
The Florida Department of Children and Families has custody of all three of Jean Baptiste's children while his case is investigated.
The child was trying to cross Military Trail near Westgate Avenue and Elmhurst Road when she was spotted by an employee of Bank of America around 3:38 p.m.
Because the girl does not speak English, she could not tell deputies her name or where she lived.
Deputies then began walking the streets near the area where she was found. Around 6 p.m. a neighbor noticed the child and gave deputies the girl’s address.
