Exotic pet amnesty day: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission holds pet amnesty day

Do you have a non-native pet that's become too much to handle?  The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission is holding its annual pet amnesty day this Saturday.

It's designed to reduce the number of nonnative species being released into the wild by pet owners who can no longer care for their pets or no longer wish to keep them.

This is your chance to surrender nonnative pets free of charge with no penalties. Every attempt will be made to place all healthy animals with qualified adopters.

The next Exotic Pet Amnesty Day will be held at Zoo Miami on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Nonnative species pose a real threat to Florida's ecosystem and our natural inhabitants.
