'Dads Take Your Child to School Day' celebrated in Palm Beach County on Wednesday

Wednesday is “Dads Take Your Child to School Day,” a day to emphasize the importance of father involvement with their child’s school.

More than 100 dads, grandfathers, uncles and other positive male role models filled the cafeteria at Poinciana STEM Elementary School in Boynton Beach.

The men were treated to breakfast and then got to read with their kids. They also took selfies and spent some quality time before the students went off to class.

Then the dads all participated in a team building activity. This is all part of a nationwide effort to encourage dads to have an active role in their kids' education.

The Palm Beach County school district says research shows that having a father or active male role model increases a child’s self esteem and academic success.

The districts says grandfathers, uncles, brothers, cousins – anyone who serves as a role model – is encouraged to take a child to school on Wednesday.

Below are the schools in Palm Beach County planning activities for "Dads Take Your Child to School Day”:

Clifford O Taylor/Kirklane Elementary School in Palm Springs

  • Students will check in with their homeroom teachers, bring some books to read, and return to the cafeteria to participate in the event. Dad and students will read together, students will return to class by 8:30.?At 8:30, the dads will be presented with a certificate of attendance, then invited to shop at our school's book fair. ??

Berkshire Elementary School 

  • Donuts with Dads while enjoying activities such as reading together and educational games using iPads as well as other fun games.

Boca Middle School

  • Donuts and coffee after pick up

Gove Elementary in Belle Glade

  • Dads will walk their child to the cafeteria and eat breakfast with them if they desire. They will then walk their child to their classroom and drop them off. They will then join me at the media center for an introduction of 'The Importance of Reading & The Components of Reading Counts.'

Poinciana Elementary in Boynton Beach

Hagen Road Elementary

  • Donuts with Dad, 7:30 to 7:50 PTA room

Crosspointe Elementary in Boynton Beach
