(CNN) -- Sen. Harry Reid went to a hospital early Friday morning because he wasn't feeling well, but he is now doing better, his office said.
"Tests have been conducted and everything is normal. He is alert, resting and feeling better," the Nevada Democrat's office said.
"Doctors have asked that he remain in the hospital for observation so he will not be working today."
Reid's office first flagged the news on Twitter.
Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, most recently was putting his efforts into pushing the Senate to clear President Obama's nominees for several posts.
Senate colleague Chuck Schumer told CNN that Reid is "fine."
Reid turned 74 years old this month.
