Rick Santorum supporters holding out hope for a Florida primary win

Rick Santorum supporters say winning Florida will be tough.

They say if he is going to take his campaign to the next level he has to reach the voters by talking about his plan for unemployment, the foreclosure crisis, and how he differs from President Obama.

Under the warm Florida sun on Tuesday, Santorum supporters and those still on the fence were wondering if Senator Rick Santorum is the man who can take on President Obama and beat him. Others were already convinced.

"He's an intelligent articulate man, he knows the issues and I think he'll be able to go head to head with Obama," said Dan Alley.

Arriving on time, Santorum took to the stage in Stuart and argued that returning the U.S. to the core values of its forefathers is key in getting the country back on track. His values resonated with some in the audience.

"Our economy will not return, we will still have unemployment and foreclosures and financial problems because our morals are not where they are supposed to be," said Valinda Lazarus.

While his hour and a half speech on family and religious morals rang loud and clear, some say he dropped the ball on talking about the issues facing many Floridians -- foreclosures and unemployment.

"Florida voters, the majority of them, want to hear someone talk about how you are going to get the unemployment rate back down, how you are going to fix the foreclosure market," said Lazarus. "I think that's going to be a challenge in this state."

Supporters say as long as he doesn't give up and fights to the end he has a chance. Some say the political warfare between candidates right now is doing more harm than good to the Republican party. Focusing on the opponent, Obama, they say is key to pulling in more votes.

"I think he needs to keep pushing his distinction from President Obama," said Scott Ferry. "Be tough against the president, not as much bickering back and forth with other candidates, that's wearing thin with voters."
