WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The voters have decided.
Shanon Materio is the permanent successor to the late West Palm Beach Commissioner Bill Moss, filling the final year of his term.
Commissioners appointed Materio to the seat after Moss's death last year.
She decided to run for it -- and, last night -- beat her challenger, Gregg Weiss, a member of the City's planning board. Weiss had the endorsement of Mayor Jeri Muoio.
So we asked her -- were the voters sending a message?
"You know what? The people out there voted for either Gregg Weiss or Shanon Materio. They weren't voting for me. As much as some folks wanted to make it about me it wasn't about me. It was about the two candidates running for this office. And, who was the best person in the eyes of the voter. And, Shanon won strongly and I congratulate her on it," the mayor said.
Materio says she plans to run again -- next year -- for a full two-year term.
